HOA Blues

I just agreed to become the Secretary for my neighborhood’s Home Owner’s Association. What the hell was I thinking? We’re making all kinds of decisions of what to do with the residents’ money, giving me a strange sense of power that is hollow yet very real. [Idealism Alert] I’m trying to make a difference, make this a better place to live, but I somehow feel like I’m slowly painting a big bullseye on my back.

We’re going to stand in front of the residents in November and tell them we just spent $17.7K on improving our park. It desperately needs it, and we don’t really have anything else to spend the money on, but try telling that to someone that has never used it or never will use it. Indeed, I hope to live to post here in December.

Anyone else out there have any HOA horror stories to tell? Tales of glory?
